The Power of Storytelling

We believe in the power of storytelling.  Children also find empowerment by telling their own stories.  When children tell stories about their own life experiences from their perspective, they can find measures of their own power.

We love the story, The Day You Begin  by Jacqueline Woodson, for this reason.  Found in our Level Green curriculum, this story invites children of all backgrounds to tell their stories, find connections, and celebrate differences.  Find the link to our read aloud here: https://bit.ly/35jWfNx

Invite the art of storytelling in your home.  Encourage creativity by having younger children turn their ideas into a puppet show.  Grab paper bags or old socks and turn them into puppets. Video the performance for other family members to enjoy!

Older children can be invited to share their stories in the form of storytelling.  Find resources for how to organize their thinking here:

Everyone has a valuable story to tell.  Encourage and empower your children to share their stories. Embrace the connections that are made and celebrate the differences that you find!
