Five Finger Test:
1. Choose a book that you think you will enjoy and look about right.
2. Open to a full page, not the beginning or end of a chapter or book.
3. Hold up a finger for each word you struggle with, or do not know.
4. If you hold up two or three fingers, the book is good. If there are five or more words you did not know, it is too hard.
Also, keep in mind some additional questions:
a. Will I enjoy this book and want to finish it?
b. Do I understand what I am reading?
c. Do I know almost every word?
d. Can I read it out loud and sound smooth?
