One important way that you can help boost your child’s reading comprehension is to periodically ask a few of these questions while your child is reading aloud or when they are finished reading a few chapters silently and then discuss the answers with your child:
- What’s happening right now in the story?
- What problem is the main character facing?
- If you were the main character, would you make the same decision? Why or why not?
- Do you think that this story is believable? Why or why not?
- If you could ask the main character in your story anything, what would you ask?
- What questions do you have about the story?
